It Shouldn't Have to Hurt to be a Child

They should be running free
They should be running wild
They Should be running toys around a playground
Instead they struggle every day
And it shouldn't be that way
And it shouldn't have to hurt to be a child

You can see it in their eyes
You can see it in their face
It's hidden in the way that they are smilin'
You'll hear it in their voice
And its really not their choice
And it shouldn't have to hurt to be a child

With a kind word here
And a small gift there
A hot meal provided by a stranger
Their eyes will open wide
And you'll know that deep inside
You've made a difference in their world
A difference that can make all the difference in the world

The stable life we know
Is the stable life they crave
We presume it's the life they all are livin'
It shouldn't have to be
A kindly deed can set them free
For it shouldn't have hurt to be a child
No it shouldn't have hurt to be a child
