The Last Fishin' Trip

Well I woke up late that Saturday mornin'
Should a took it for a heavenly warnin'
But sleepin' in late brakes the fisherman's code
So I boiled some coffee and I hit the road.

I blew out a tire on the interstate ramp
Ran off the road and spilled my coffee in my lap
Hopped on out and headed for my tools
Grabbed the canteen and doused my jewels
Jacked up the truck slapped on the spare
Should a turned back then but I was almost there

Well that's the last fishin' trip I'm ever goin' on
That's the last fish I ever care to look upon
Although I may regret it when I'm dead and gone
That's the last fishin' trip that I'm ever goin' on

Well I got to the lake at quarter past ten
Put a worm on my hook and threw it on in
In the first two hours I got twenty-seven bites
From mosquitoes chiggers and bitin' flies
Caught the bottom of the lake twenty three times
And an old tin can that was covered with slime

Well that's the last fishin' trip I'm ever goin' on
That's the last fish I ever care to look upon
Although I may regret it when I'm dead and gone
That's the last fishin' trip that I'm ever goin' on

The bad luck had nearly taken its toll
When a jerk on line nearly snapped my poll
Fought for an hour on the end of the line
No one could believe this monster of mine
Pictures were snapped as I held him high
"I bet its a record" someone replied

But he was thrashin' about gaspin' for air
Felt sorry for the poor thing sufferin' there
I heard someone say "He's some kind a flake"
As I carefully set him back in the lake.
He turned and gave me a flick of his fin
Turned again and swam on in

Well that's the last fishin' trip I'm ever goin' on
That's the last fish I ever care to look upon
Although I may regret it when I'm dead and gone
That's the last fishin' trip that I'm ever goin' on

Well that's the last fishin' trip I'm ever goin' on
That's the last fish I ever care to look upon
Although I may regret it when I'm dead and gone
That's the last fishin' trip that I'm ever goin' on
