Sleepin' Neath the Pines

(© 2002 Walter Farmer)

Now the city life's been good to me I never should complain
But I long to hear that mountain breeze and see the pine trees sway
Bedroll's in the back and I'm feelin' fine
By afternoon I'll be Sleepin' 'Neath the Pines

Me and my old truck have both seen better days
Engine sings and the driveline rings as we make the mountain grade
Cool air in my face runs a chill down my spine
By afternoon I'll be Sleepin' 'Neath the Pines

Stop for the gate by the Old Wreck mine and listen for a while
The nothin' I hear's so sweet to my ears - I can't help but smile
Follow the trail to the canyon floor where pristine waters shine
By afternoon, I'll be sleepin' 'neath the pines

Got the hammock strung between two trees and I slowly close my eyes
All my troubles drift away as the afternoon flies by
My snore runs through the canyon - hope the animals don't mind
It's afternoon and I'm sleeppin' 'neath the pines.
It's afternoon and I'm sleeppin' 'neath the pines.
